ADMISSION AND RETENTION POLICY
New Brighton School of the Philippines, Inc. (NBSPI), in general, welcomes students of any nationality and any religious beliefs. However, the student’s contract with the NBSPI is by semester, and therefore, the school reserves the right to refuse re-admission to anyone in subsequent semesters.
1. On the admission of incoming first year college students, as well as on the retention of students in programs, NBSPI adopts various criteria to include but not limited to the following:
a. result of NBSPI Placement Test;
b. grades in Senior High School; and
c. any CHED requirements for admission.
2. General criteria on admission and retention of students in the programs are as follows:
A. Selective Admission and Selective Retention
The program of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) observes selective admission based on Placement Test Score of at least Stanine 4 and selective retention based on grade requirement of the BSA program.
B. Academic Probation and Retention Policies in BS Accountancy
1. A student is dropped from BS Accountancy when they have failing grades in any major subject.
2. Major areas in BS Accountancy program are as follows: Accounting and Accounting related subjects, Taxation, and Law.
3. Grade requirements for retention in BS Accountancy are:
a. GPA of 2.25 for every semester.
b. No grade below 2.5 for Accountancy major subjects.
c. No Failure in General Education subjects
d. no grade below 2.75 in major subjects to include Law, Tax and Business subjects
4. Screening Period for four-year board course is from First Year to Second Year. In case in the 3rd year and 4th year, the students do not meet the requirements in item no. 3 above, they will re-take the subject.
5. Students in non-board course shifting to a board course should retake the OLSAT, obtain Stanine 4 or higher result and meet No. 3 requirements.
6. Other specific retention policies are to be referred to the College Dean.
C. Open Admission and Open Retention
The programs listed below admit all applicants and students may be retained in the program without grade conditions.
• Bachelor of Science in Management Accounting (BSMA)
• Bachelor of Science in Accounting Information System (BSAIS)
• Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship (BS Entrep)
• Bachelor of Science in Information Systems (BSIS)
• Bachelor of Science in Development Communication (BS DevCom)
3. The Admission Committee reserves the right to determine the unit load of students in the program for students with Stanine 1 and 2.
4. Students with Stanine 1 placement test result are required to take Bridging Program.
5. Students enrolled in College programs not in line with their Senior High School strand are required to take Bridging subjects as reflected in the CHED approved curriculum.
6. For transferees/ shifters to Bachelor of Science in Accountancy:
a. no failing grade, D, W, No Grade, or its equivalent
b. General Point Average (GPA) of:
b.1. Accounting, grade of 2.50 or better
c. no grade below 2.75 in major subjects to include Law, Tax and Business subjects
d. Second coursers follow the same admission and retention policies of transferees to BS Accountancy.
7. The following students are not eligible for admission to NBSPI
a. A transferee from another school with records of disciplinary action/s
b. A student with record of immorality or other grave misconduct.
c. A student convicted of any criminal case.
8. The school reserves the right to refuse admission to a student who has
a. withheld relevant information relative to his/her application or
b. tampered any admission documents
9. Decisions on admission and retention of students in the program not provided in this handbook will be decided by the Academic Council.
